Former South Korean national football head coach Hong Myung-bo will steer the Hangzhou Greentown FC in the Chinese Super League, Hong has signed a two-year deal.
He follows in the steps of fellow Korean coaches in top-flight Chinese clubs such as Park Tae-ha (Yanbian Changbaishan FC) and Chang Woe-ryong (Chongqing Lifan FC).
Hong, a star national footballer from the 2002 World Cup, led the South Korean team to a bronze medal at the 2012 London Olympics, the country’s first Olympic medal in football.
He then led the senior national team to the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil. South Korea crashed out of the group stage with one draw and two losses, and Hong had to step down.
