- Robbie Lawler says Floyd Mayweather Jr. won’t win against top MMA fighters
- He says Mayweather won’t even last two minutes inside the UFC Octagon
- Lawler is the current UFC welterweight champion
Current UFC welterweight champion Robert Glenn “Robbie” Lawler said undefeated pound-for-pound king, Floyd Mayweather Jr. will not last two minutes if he’s up against top MMA fighters.
He acknowledged that although Mayweather is good at what he does, things won’t come easy for him inside the Octagon.
When the 33-year-old American fighter appeared on ESPN’s “Sports Center” on Wednesday, January 13, he was asked ‘how would Mayweather do against the top MMA fighters in the world?’
GMA News Online was quoted him as saying:“Against the best guys in the world? He’s not making it out of two minutes.
What happens when he gets picked up and slammed on the ground and he’s on his back? There’s a lot of variables, and he’s great at what he does, and this is a totally different sport.”
In case Mayweather decides to go inside the octagon, Lawler shared tips on how to deal with the retired world boxing champion.
“It’d be a better thing for someone to take him down and finish him quick than to kick his legs out, kick him in the body, take him down, elbow him in the face, do those kinds of things for five rounds,” he said.
Lawler vs Condit
According to an article published by Yahoo News, Lawler defended his title and defeated Carlos Condit via split decision (47-48, 48-47, 48-47) in the main event at UFC 195 on January 2, 2016, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Fans were raving it was one of the best fights they’ve ever seen so far.
“He was everything everyone said he was,” Lawler said of his opponent. “He was tough as hell.”
With the win, Lawler was able to defend his belt for the second consecutive time and earned his fifth win in a row.
He is currently #5 pound-for-pound in the official UFC rankings.
